Welcome to my Mongol Derby pages! On 22 August 2009, twenty five riders faced a gruelling 1000 km race across the empty wilderness of Mongolia. This was no ordinary horse race. The inaugural Mongol Derby was not a test of the horse's speed, but the rider's skill, endurance and the toughness of the skin between their legs...The Mongol Derby is officially recognised by the Guinness Book of Records as the longest, toughest horse race in the world and I took part (don't laugh). I managed it in 9 and a half days and enjoyed almost every second of it (just not the bit when I nearly pooed myself on horseback because the crazy animal wouldn't let me get off) and would happily have turned round and ridden the whole way back again after finishing. I fell in love with the country, the people, the horses and made many, many fantastic friends. It really was the trip of a lifetime. As with all The Adventurists events, the Mongol Derby was not only about having a proper adventure, it was also about raising as much cash as possible for charity. Part of the deal for me competing was that I had to raise plenty of money for a worthy cause or two. I am collecting on behalf of Mercy Corps, the Mongol Derby’s charity in order to qualify to take part but I am also taking the opportunity to raise a little bit of money for a charity of my choice, Help for Heroes. It would be wonderful if you could sponsor me using the Just Giving toggles on the left. Thank you so much for your support and any sponsorship you can throw my way! Annelie x ![]() |
